Your privacy is important to us

This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their “Personally Identifiable Information” (PII) is being used on this website by White Stag Sierra. PII, as used in U.S. privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information on our website.

We collect aggregate, anonymous information on the IP address you use and what pages you access or visit. We also collect information volunteered by you to us, such as a request from you to be added to our mailing list or to send you information about our camp. The information we collect is used for internal purposes and is retained for our continued use. We do not share your information with any other organization.

You’ll be notified of any privacy policy changes on this Privacy Policy Page. You can change or remove personal information at any time by emailing us.

The following legal information is provided as required by law and as a courtesy to our loyal parents and families.

Children’s online privacy

In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we ask that parents complete the Candidate Application. The Federal Trade Commission enforces COPPA which spells out what operators of websites like ours must do to protect children’s privacy and safety online.

We adhere to the following COPPA tenants.

  • We do not require a child 13 years old or younger to disclose any information to us.
  • Parents can review their child’s personal information that they provided us, direct us to delete it, and refuse to allow any further collection or use of the child’s information.
  • Parents can agree to the collection and use of their child’s information, but still refuse to allow disclosure to third parties unless that’s part of our service.
  • Parents can review, delete, manage or refuse to share their child’s information with any third-party at any time by emailing our support staff or by mailing us a letter.  (But we don’t share information with any third party.)
  • We will notify parents directly if we ever decide to collect Personally Identifiable Information from their children 13 years old or younger. This includes what specific information we would want to collect and how it might be disclosed, a link to our online privacy policy, and how you can give your consent. If you don’t consent within a reasonable time, we will delete the parent’s and child’s Personally Identifiable Information from our records.
  • Parents can give consent or retract their consent by contacting us directly.

California Online Privacy Protection Act

The California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) requires commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law requires a person or company in the United States that operates websites collecting personally identifiable information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals with whom it is being shared, and to comply with this policy. For details, see CalOPPA.

In keeping with CalOPPA, we agree to the following:

  • Users can visit our site anonymously
  • We’ve added a link to our privacy policy in the footer of our entire web site.
  • Our Privacy Policy link includes the word ‘Privacy’.

Understanding the Fair Information Practice Principles and how they should be implemented is critical to comply with the various privacy laws that protect personal information.

We don’t store Personally Identifiable Information on our website except for your name and email address. The information you give to us when you apply for camp is removed from the our secure web server as soon as practical, usually within 7 business days.

  • We’ll tell you on this web site within 7 business days.

We also agree to the individual redress principle, which requires that individuals have a right to pursue legally enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law. This principle requires not only that individuals have enforceable rights against data users, but also that individuals have recourse to courts or a government agency to investigate and/or prosecute non-compliance by data processors.

CAN SPAM Act

The CAN SPAM Act is a law that sets the rules for commercial email, establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have emails stopped from being sent to them, and spells out tough penalties for violations.

We collect your email address so we can send you information you requested, to respond to inquiries, and/or other requests or questions.

In keeping with the CAN SPAM Act, we agree to the following:

  • To not use false or misleading subjects or email addresses.
  • Identify the message as an advertisement in some reasonable way.
  • Include the physical address of our business or site headquarters.
  • Monitor third-party email marketing services for compliance, if one is used.
  • Honor opt-out/unsubscribe requests quickly.
  • Allow users to unsubscribe by using the link at the bottom of each email.

If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, just follow the instructions at the bottom of each email. We’ll promptly remove you from all correspondence.

Data Used: If image view tracking is enabled, the following information is used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code.

Activity Tracked: Image views.

Contact Form

Data Used: If Akismet is enabled on the site, the contact form submission data — IP address, user agent, name, email address, website, and message — is submitted to the Akismet service (also owned by Automattic) for the sole purpose of spam checking. The actual submission data is stored in the database of the site on which it was submitted and is emailed directly to us. This email include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.

Data Synced (?): Post and post meta data associated with a user’s contact form submission. If Akismet is enabled on the site, the IP address and user agent originally submitted with the comment are synced, as well, as they are stored in post meta.

Google Analytics

Data Used: Please refer to the appropriate Google Analytics documentation for the specific type of data it collects. Google Analytics does offer IP anonymization, which can be enabled by the site owner.

Activity Tracked: This feature sends page view events (and potentially video play events) over to Google Analytics for consumption.

Infinite Scroll

Data Used: In order to record page views via WordPress.com Stats (which must be enabled for page view tracking here to work) with additional loads, the following information is used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code.

Activity Tracked: Page views will be tracked with each additional load (i.e. when you scroll down to the bottom of the page and a new set of posts loads automatically). If the site owner has enabled Google Analytics to work with this feature, a page view event will also be sent to the appropriate Google Analytics account with each additional load.

Mobile Theme

Data Used: A visitor’s preference on viewing the mobile version of a site.

Activity Tracked: A cookie (akm_mobile) is stored for 3.5 days to remember whether or not a visitor of the site wishes to view its mobile version. Learn more about this cookie.

Sharing

Data Used: When sharing content via email (this option is only available if Akismet is active on the site), the following information is used: sharing party’s name and email address (if the user is logged in, this information will be pulled directly from their account), IP address (for spam checking), user agent (for spam checking), and email body/content. This content will be sent to Akismet (also owned by Automattic) so that a spam check can be performed. Additionally, if reCAPTCHA (by Google) is enabled by the site owner, the sharing party’s IP address will be shared with that service. You can find Google’s privacy policy here.
